Beehive anti-theft

Your hives stay where you
left them. And you know it right away.

Every year in Italy about twenty thousand hives disappear, almost always from isolated apiaries. bjtOS stands guard for you: it notices the exact instant a hive moves and warns you with its position.

The problem

Theft strikes where it hurts most: the apiaries far from home

You keep the hives where the bees do best, far from home and unguarded. It is also where a theft goes unnoticed for days: nobody hears, nobody sees, and you find out only at the next visit.

How it works

Three sensors standing guard, without ever draining the battery

A serious anti-theft is not a siren that frightens, it is an alert that arrives in time. Here are the sensors that work together inside the node.

Accelerometer · the sentinel

Fixed to the body of the hive, it keeps watch continuously while drawing a few microamperes. If someone lifts it, tilts it or makes it sway past threshold, it instantly wakes the rest of the system. It is the trigger that sets everything off.

GPS · the position on alarm

It stays off so as not to drain the battery: it is the thirstiest sensor. It turns on only when the alarm goes off, takes the fix and attaches the coordinates to the message. So you do not just know it has moved, you also know where.

Lid contact · the opening

A magnetic reed that draws almost nothing and signals when the roof is lifted. With an inspection mode that silences the alarm while you work, because often the one opening the lid is you.

Geofencing

The hive knows its home

At installation the hive stores its home coordinates. From that moment, if the position drifts beyond a radius you have chosen, the alarm goes off. A fence you cannot see and cannot climb over, because it sits not on the ground but in the position of the hive itself.

It tells you the instant it happens

That minute of head start is everything: the difference between a notification that wakes you while the van is still in the area and the bitter discovery three days later.

Without a subscription

Basic protection should not carry a fee

Most beehive anti-theft systems run over the cellular network: each hive has its own SIM and, to keep it active, you pay a subscription to a phone company, and the day you stop paying the operator switches the SIM off and the hive goes silent. Not bjtOS. The data travels over LoRa to a receiver that is yours, and from there to the platform with a single connection shared by all the hives in the apiary: no SIM inside every hive, no phone subscription multiplying by the number of colonies. When security is part of the design and not a service resold by an operator, it can be part of the price just once.

The honest limit of LoRa

We prefer an informed customer to an inflated promise. LoRa is perfect for carrying data from an apiary with no signal, but if the hive leaves radio range the following messages do not arrive: it is not a tracker that chases the van down the motorway. That is why the alarm goes out right away, at detection, when the hive is almost always still in range. That first message, with coordinates and the exact time, is what counts.

Sleep soundly even when the apiary is far away

We are building a digital-native hive in which protection is part of the design, not an accessory.
